Daisy Lea Hughes died Tuesday, November 25, 2008 in Thomas Memorial Hospital of complications from pneumonia.
The last survivor of the nine children of Henry C. and Mary Elizabeth McClure, she was born August 30, 1917 in Lincoln County, WV. In addition to her siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul MacRae Hughes, and an infant son, Arthur Dale Fisher. A lifelong resident of West Virginia, Daisy was retired from the Diamond Department Store.
She is survived by her daughters and their husbands: Carolyn Sue and Jarrell Stephenson of St. Albans, and Sharon and Tim Comer of Charleston; her four grandchildren: Monica Stephenson and husband Roger Miller, Jr. of Winfield; Holly White and husband Eric of Scott Depot; Jacob Comer of Boston, MA; and Sarah Payne and husband Craig of Hollywood, MD; five great-grandsons and another due in January, 2009.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Keller Funeral Home in Dunbar, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, November 28, 2008. Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 29 at Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.
For the last 3 years, Daisy has resided at Sunbridge of Dunbar. The family wishes to thank the staff for their loving and compassionate care. Our most special thanks to Loretta, and to Alice, Gracie and Barb.
