Obituary

Daniel Bailey Watson affectionately called "Kentucky" and "Dawg", 73, of St. Albans, West Virginia, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on April 21, 2026, in Charleston, West Virginia. A devoted father, respected businessman, and beloved pillar of his community, Daniel's life was a testament to faith, generosity, and unwavering kindness.

Born on December 6, 1952, in Louisville, Kentucky, Daniel was the son of the late James Watson and Willie Mae Watson. From humble beginnings, he grew into a man whose presence could light up any room and whose heart was always open to others.

Daniel attended Westport High School and later continued his education at West Virginia State University where he was an exemplary athlete. He went on to build a successful brick masonry company, where his craftsmanship and dedication left a lasting mark not only on structures, but on the people, he worked alongside and mentored. He was a man who took pride in hard work and integrity.

A man of deep faith, "Kentucky" fellowshipped faithfully at Scary Creek Church of God, finding joy and strength in his spiritual walk. He was known for bringing people together—family, friends, and even strangers—often hosting annual gatherings where no one left hungry. His generosity knew no bounds, and his home and heart were always open.

Daniel had a passion for life that was unmistakable. He loved horses and was truly a cowboy at heart, owning and training quarter horses with pride and skill. He also found joy in bodybuilding and weightlifting, embracing strength in both body and spirit. He was inducted into the WVSU hall of Fame in 2009. A lover of tradition, the Kentucky Derby held a special place in his heart—an occasion that will never feel quite the same without him. Wherever Daniel was present, he was the center of attraction, drawing others in with his charisma, warmth, and genuine love for people.

In addition to his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by his brothers, James, Paul, and Joe Watson.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories his beloved daughters, Danielle "Dani" Watson of Largo, Maryland, and Juliett Watson of Louisville, Kentucky; his sister, Betty Rowe; his brothers, Jeremiah Watson and John Watson, all from Louisville, Kentucky; and his cherished grandchildren, Jewell Watson, Emery Ware, Bailey Ward, Avery Ware, Rush Ward, Daniel Ward, and Israel Martin, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends whose lives he touched deeply.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Keller Funeral Home and First Baptist Church for their care, compassion, and support during this time.

A celebration of Daniel's life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, April 27, 2026, at First Baptist Church, 432 Shrewsbury Street, Charleston, West Virginia 25301, with Reverend Paul Anthony Dunn officiating.

Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to the service for visitation.

A repass will be held immediately following the service, where loved ones can come together to share memories and honor Daniel's remarkable life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Kentucky's honor  to the WVSU "W" Club at the West Virginia State University Foundation, 100 East Hall, Box 1000, Institute, WV 25112 or online at https://connect.wvstateu.edu/donate. Please specify in memory of Daniel Watson
