David Bruce Lyons, 80, beloved husband, father, and papaw, died unexpectedly on Monday, November 10, 2025 at CAMC Memorial from heart complications.

He was absolutely and completely devoted to his family, including his wife and sweetheart of over 53 years, Peggy Lyons (Casdorph); his daughters, Shana Wandling (Scott Wandling) and Anessa Schaffer (De'Luir Schaffer); and his granddaughters, Olivia and Gabrielle Wandling. He was a dedicated family man that loved them unconditionally and without limit.

David is survived by his brother, Richard Lyons. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Lyons; mother Mildred Lyons; brothers, Doug Lyons, Roger Lyons, and Wayne Lyons; and nephew, Jared Lyons.

He began his career in the communications industry for C&P and retired from Verizon after 36 years of diligent work.

David believed that death was a time to celebrate life and to remember and share good memories, funny stories, and comforting thoughts.

He was an amazingly talented man that found joy in cooking for those he loved and those in need. He was greatly known for his jellies, hot mustard sauce, pea salad, lasagna, biscuits, rolls, and many other delicious creations. He loved creating art in the form of leather work, powder horns and beautifully-made denim blankets. David was a member of the Muzzleloader Association and Mountain Man Society and would go to schools and events to educate kids about life as an early American. He was involved with lobbying in the WV Legislature for conservation rights and hunting rights.

He will be remembered for being stubborn silly, funny, talented, creative, smart, caring, intimidating, strong, hard working, grouchy, loving and an amazing husband, father, and papaw, who "never told a lie in his life."

David will be deeply and profoundly missed by his family.

Arrangements are being handled by Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar. Per his wishes, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, please enjoy a good meal with a loved one and share a story that would have made him laugh.
