Obituary

Debra L. "Debbie" Hood of Cross Lanes, passed away on September 15, 2010 after a long illness.

She was born on July 10, 1950 to A. D. "Jack" and Mary Alice Boyd Carpenter. She has now been reunited in heaven with her beloved son, David Andrew Hood, who was killed by a hit and run driver in 2002 and her father, Jack Carpenter, who passed in 2008 as well as other family members that she cherished.

She graduated from Dunbar High School in 1968. She was the former part-owner of Colonial Insurance Agency in Dunbar. She worked in the insurance industry for over 30 years as an insurance claims adjuster and supervisor. She was a member of Dunbar First Baptist Church where she enjoyed participating in the choir, basketball, and softball teams. She was a very giving person always thinking of others before herself. She loved giving gifts to her family and friends. She was a talented singer, artist, decorator and loved sports like her Dad.

She is survived by her loving husband of 26 years and caregiver, David L. Hood, II of Cross Lanes; her mother, Mary Alice Carpenter of Dunbar; her brothers, A. Dayton Carpenter (Barbara) of Charleston, Donald L. Carpenter (Susan Blackhurst) of Dunbar; her sister, Dena L. Johnston (Bill) of Dunbar; her step-children, Travis Hood (Ines) of Arkansas and Tanya Patterson of Texas; step-grandchildren, Kyleigh and Cadee Patterson and TJ Hood; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends who will miss her wonderful sense of humor. She will truly be missed by all of those who knew her.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, September 19 at Dunbar First Baptist Church, Dunbar, with the Rev. George Pauley and Tom George officiating. Entombment will be in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens in the WV Mausoleum at a later date.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, September 18 at Keller Funeral Home in Dunbar.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the David Andrew Hood Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation, P.O. Box 3041, Charleston, WV 25331, which was formed after Davey's tragic death.
