Obituary

Delmer Vanburen Smith, 98, of Dunbar, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 31, 2010, at Hubbard Hospice House.

He was a great son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend and, most of all, a good Christian.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Evelyn Dodson, mother, Louise King, father, Fred Smith, great granddaughter, Lucy Erin Smith, brother, Corbett Trent, son-in-law Darrell Stinnett and two special brothers-in-law Robert and Frank Dodson.

He leaves behind brother, Curtis King and his wife Agnes; daughter, Connie Stinnett, son, Denny Smith and wife Donna, son, Larry Smith; grandchildren, Tim Smith and wife Gwen, Robin Stinnett Webb and husband Rusty, Diane Stinnett Carey and husband Andy, Jodi Stinnett Cavender and husband Doug; and Kristi Joi Smith; great grandchildren, Garrett, Mickey, and Luke Smith; Adam Marshall and wife Kelli, Matthew Marshall, Alexa Webb, Rachel and Lauren Carey, Dylan and Chloe Cavender, Braydon and Kinslee Walker.

The family wishes to thank his many friends and neighbors that have been so faithful to visit.

He was a 75-year member of the Dunbar Church of the Nazarene. He retired from the Union Carbide Institute Plant in 1976.

A celebration of his life will be 11a.m. Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at the Dunbar Church of the Nazarene, corner of Lightner Avenue and 16th Street with the Rev. Greg Hudson officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.

Friends may call at the church starting at 9:30 a.m. prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennewa Drive, Charleston, WV 25311.
