Obituary

Delores Anne Harrison Jarvis went to Heaven on March 7, 2026.

Delores was born to Floyd & Zula Casto Harrison on May 7, 1943.  She was the oldest of four children.  Delores graduated from Dunbar High School in 1961 and went to work shortly after for Dr. Joe Bowles as a dental assistant.  She retired after many years from Dr. Melvin Mosley's practice in Dunbar.  She was blessed to spend the last several years working with her youngest sister, Diane.

Delores married the love of her life Paul Harlan Jarvis on November 9, 1963.  They spent their earlier years attending car shows.  In later years after a failed back surgery, she took on the role of caregiver.  She cared for him tirelessly for 14 years.  He affectionately called her "Sweetie."

Delores was a devoted daughter who loved and cared deeply for her family.  After the death of her father in 1975, she and her mother shared a relationship that most can only imagine.  Car rides, plane trips, outings to the family farm, and frequent visits to the movies, they were inseparable.  Part of Delores went to Heaven in 2009.

Delores was a faithful sister to Jim (deceased in 1984), Debbie, and Diane.  She was a shining example of a big sis.  In earlier years she was a "mother figure," often fixing Debbie and Diane's hair and dressing them like little dolls.  She was wise, strong, supportive, and led by example.  The last 17 years she was the matriarch of the Harrison family.

"Aunt Dee Dee" as her nieces and nephews called her, was the epitome of an aunt.  She loved each of them fiercely, celebrated their victories and cried with them through their disappointments.  She was patient, understanding, and kind.  To know her, was to love her.  Leann, Leslie, Melanie, Lori, Billy (deceased in 1994), Melinda, John, 16 greats, and 12 great-greats LOVE YOU MORE, Aunt Dee.

Delores loved flowers, gardening and hummingbirds.  She was a lifelong member of Dunbar First Baptist Church. Delores enjoyed sitting on her front porch in her swing with her faithful fur baby companion, Holly Noel.  Her home was decorated with treasures of years gone by: a butter churn, old pictures, Depression glass, and so much more.  She was a precious jewel who will be sorely missed.

Delores is survived by her husband, Harlan; her fur baby, Holly; her sisters, Debbie Lanham (Buzzy) and Diane Patton (David); her sister-in-law, Susan Gaskins; and brother-in-law, Gary Jarvis (Sakap).  She leaves behind 6 nieces and a nephew, 16 great nieces and nephews and 12 great-great nieces and nephews who will carry her in their hearts.  As well as a host of friends who will miss her dearly.

The family would like to thank Brenda White for the wonderful care she provided for Harlan and her unwavering friendship with Delores.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 13 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with Bishop Melvin Mosley officiating.  Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
