Dempsey D. Richardson, 88, of Dunbar, passed away Friday, February 27, 2009 at Thomas Memorial Hospital.
He was a former employee of Fletcher Enamel Co. in Dunbar and was a retired carpenter with E. I. DuPont Co. after 39 years of service. Dempsey was a US Army veteran, having served in Germany during WW II. He was a member and former trustee of the Dunbar United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Crusader's Class and the Men's Association. He was a member of the "Old Critters" who helped rebuild the church after it was destroyed by fire in 1989. Dempsey served as treasurer for the Dunbar Little League for many years and was an original member of the DuPont Hunting & Fishing Club. He loved picnics and campfires and loved to hunt and fish with his great friend, Joe Campbell.
Surviving are his loving wife, Anna "Kooge" Richardson; sons, D. Richardson and his wife, Christy Granger Richardson and Jack Richardson and his wife, Sandy Litton Richardson; daughter, Tammy Jones and her husband, Jeff Jones; grandchildren, Seth, Shane, Shari, Casey, Pete, Alex and Hannah; great grandchildren, Austin and Gavin.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 2, at the Dunbar United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Okey B. Harless officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, March 1, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
