Diane "Sue" Means

Diane "Sue" Means, 79, of Charleston, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2026.

Born on August 3, 1947, in Charleston, WV, Sue was the daughter of the late Edith and Hank Ballard.

Throughout her life, Sue was known for her kind heart, generous spirit, and deep devotion to the things and people she cherished most.

Family was the centerpiece of Sue's world. She was happiest spending quality time with those she loved and leaves behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, kindness, and cherished memories.

Sue had an extraordinary love for animals. She was a passionate advocate for animals in need and dedicated much of her life to adopting, rescuing, and caring for them. She believed every animal deserved to be loved, protected, and given a safe place to call home. Her dogs were especially dear to her heart, and each one that came into her life held a special place in it. Her compassion for animals was a beautiful reflection of the loving and generous person she was.

Sue was preceded in death by her loving husband, Larry “Randy” Means; her sisters, Glenna Mason and Linda Ballard; and her brother, Michael Ballard.

She is survived by her daughters; Kelly Wayland (Jeff) and Michele Means; her five grandchildren, Kevin Wayland (Rejane), Ali Vance (Derek), Amber Wayland, Haley Wayland (Taj), and Hayden Means; her two great-grandchildren, Landon Wooddell and Paisley Vance; and her brother, Jimmy Ballard (Susie). She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish the memories they shared with her.

A service celebrating Sue's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Graceland Memorial Park in Charleston, WV, on Friday, October 2, 2026.

Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that monetary donations be made in Sue's honor to the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association to support her lifelong passion for animal rescue and her deep love for the animals she cared for throughout her life.
