Pastor Donald "Don" Burdette, 71, of Big Chimney, went to sleep in the Lord on Tuesday, October 17, 2006, in CAMC Memorial after a long illness. He fought a good fight, he kept the faith and ultimately finished his course in the manner that Paul had sat before him long awaiting the glorious return of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
He was born in Dunbar, on Feb 10, 1935 the third child of Elvin and Macel Burdette, which have both preceded him in death along with his sister, Helen Teel and her husband, Virgil.
Pastor Burdette is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years Dorcas; one son, Craig Burdette and his companion Cookie of Big Chimney; one daughter Stephanie Burcham and her husband Dovel of Big Chimney; three grandsons, Tyler and Zach Burdette and Aaron Burcham; two granddaughters, Brittany Burdette and A'sa Burcham; brothers Ronald Burdette and his wife Sandra of Liberty, KY, Clinton Burdette and his wife Jo of Red House; and his oldest sister Reva Wills and her husband, Park of Big Chimney, along with a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Don faithfully served in the ministry since Dec 31, 1960 evangelizing and pastoring several churches throughout the Kanawha Valley and holding numerous tent revivals in the 1960's. He was ordained through the Primitive Advent Conference.
He also sang 1st tenor in several quartets over many years beginning in 1967 until health issues prevented his continuance as a member of an organized quartet in the ministry of song that he treasured and enjoyed with his wonderful brothers in Christ.
He retired as warehouse manager of FAD Furniture in 1991 after 25 years. He also served in the US Army Reserves from 1957 until 1962.
He is loved dearly and will be sadly missed by his adoring family and countless friends that he cherished.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, October 20, at Blue Creek Christian Advent Church with Pastor Ted Tawney and Pastor Nahum Balser officiating. Burial will follow in Elk Hills Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 19 at the church.
