Donald Owen Cooney, 69, of Charleston passed away on February 11, 2013 due to complications from colon cancer.
The family would like to advise everyone to have a colonoscopy, so they would be aware of any early signs of cancer.
Donald was retired from Kroger after more than 30 years of service, and was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, Dunbar. He was an avid sports nut, especially loved watching WVU. Donald was very devoted to his family and loved spending his time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale Cooney and Helen Slater.
Donald is survived by his wife of 46 years, Patty Cooney of Charleston; daughters, Erin Beth Means and husband Joseph of South Charleston, Amy Nicole Shafer and husband Scott of Clendenin; sisters, Patty Clendenin of South Charleston, Sherry Bragg of Glasgow, Jean Cope of FL, and Cheryl Darby of Fredericksburg, VA.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, Dunbar with Elder Cesar Anderson officiating. Arrangements are in care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
