Obituary

On Friday, April 11, 2008, Donald Keith Garrett, Sr. went to his heavenly home while surrounded by his loving family, wife, Eva Lindsey Garrett, D'Anne Omar of Raleigh, NC, Deborah Hyde of Littleton, NC, Evalyn Bibbee of Charleston, and son, Donald Keith Garrett, Jr. of Dunbar.

Don was born on February 13, 1930 in Dunbar to the late C. Doyle Garrett and Madeline Lee Garrett and has lived his entire life in Dunbar. Don is survived by his brother, Dallas Lee Garrett of Dunbar. He graduated from Dunbar High School in 1948, and began his working career in the area, first at Fletcher's Enamel Plant, and then to Union Carbide Corporation at Institute for 40 years, beginning in 1949, where he demonstrated the work ethic he was known for, one of dependability and excellence.

In 1948, Don married the love of his life, Eva May Lindsey, and has been a devoted husband for nearly 60 years. Besides their four children, Don has been blessed with nine grandchildren, Lindsey Cline and Leslie Fisher both of Wake Forest, NC, Matt Canterbury, David Omar, Shelley Omar all of Raleigh, NC, Ben Bibbee and Charley Bibbee both of Charleston, Jeremy Garrett and Julian Garrett both of Charlotte, NC; as well as four great grandchildren.

Don was a member of Dunbar United Methodist Church, where his memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 14, at 1401 Myers Avenue, Dunbar, with the Rev. Dr. Okey Harless officiating. The family may be greeted at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary.

Don was involved in the Beni Kedem Shriner's organization where he participated in the Oriental Band and the Highlanders. He enjoyed collecting coins and stamps, camping in his younger years, RV'ing in his later years, dancing and spending time with his family.

The family invites friends and loved ones to visit at the house at 313 19th Street, Dunbar. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be made to HospiceCare, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar, WV 25064.
