Obituary

Donald D. Parsons, 82, of Dunbar, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2006, in Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, after a long illness.

Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be missed by many family and friends.

Don, along with his wife, Sally, were owners of Parsons Floor Covering in Dunbar for 35 years. He was a longstanding member of Humphreys Memorial United Methodist Church and was an active member of the church choir, where his voice touched many hearts and souls. Don enjoyed singing Barbershop and sang with the Kanawha Kordsmen as well as many quartets over the years, including the Harmony Brokers Quartet. Before his stroke, Don enjoyed playing golf anytime he could arrange a good tee time at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club. He was a Past Master of the Dunbar Masonic Lodge No. 159 AF & AM, and a past member of the Beni Kedem Shrine.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mary E. "Sally" Parsons who passed away only three weeks ago on October 7th.

He leaves behind his three children, Judy and her husband, Larry of Hurricane, Don "Bud" Parsons, and his wife, Pam of Cross Lanes, Bruce Parsons, and his wife, Eileen of Mission Viejo, CA; grandchildren, Mitchell Clendenin, and his wife, Sherry of Spring Hill, TN, Bryan Clendenin of Lyons, CO, Emily Lopez and Mary Parsons both of Cross Lanes, Corey and Casey Parsons both of Mission Viejo, CA; great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Lopez and great-grandson, Aaron Joshua Clendenin. He is also survived by a brother, Lester Parsons, and his wife, Marnie of Tennessee; sister, Wanda Parsons Ross and her husband, Roy of Florida; brother-in-law, Joe Gillespie, and his wife, Dot of Belle Meade, TN; sister-in-law, Frances Hill of Winfield, sister-in-law, Doris Gillespie, and her husband, David of Circleville, OH; special caregivers, Annie Shultz and David and Paulette Reed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Humphreys Memorial United Methodist Church, 1400 Grosscup Avenue, Dunbar, WV 25064.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 6, at Humphreys Memorial United Methodist Church, Dunbar, with the Rev. Dr. Okey B. Harless officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, November 5, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
