Obituary

Donald E. Peterson, 86, of Nitro, went home to be with the Lord May 12, 2016 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.

Don was born April 23, 1930 in LaCrosse, Wisc., to the late Clinton Peterson and Nellie Olson. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Kightley of Charleston; brothers, Norman and Richard Peterson; and sister, Barbara Lepley all of LaCrosse.

He graduated from LaCrosse State College and received his Master's Degree from West Virginia University. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

Don was a member of Cross Lanes Baptist Church where he served as Bible Fellowship teacher, usher and in other areas. He was retired from Union Carbide with 43 years of service.

Don was active in Freemasonry throughout his life. In his teen years, he served as Master Councilor in the Order of DeMolay. He was a 63-year member and Past Master of Charleston Lodge No. 153, A.F. & A.M. He was a member and Past High Priest of Tyrian Chapter No. 13, Royal Arch Masons, and served as Grand High Priest of West Virginia in 2009. He was a member and Past Commander of Kanawha Commandery No. 4, Knights Templar, and served as Grand Commander of West Virginia in 1983. He was a member and Past Governor of Charles W. Wise No. 137 York Rite College, a Past Grand Governor of West Virginia, and holder of the Order of the Purple Cross. Don was also a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason, currently serving as Director of Work for the Charleston Scottish Rite Bodies.

Don is survived by his wife Rose; two sons, David and Rick; daughter, Sandra Morris; grandchildren, Michael, Jon, Holly, Abby, and Claire; and great grandson, Donte.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Mon. May 16, at Cross Lanes Baptist Church with Pastor Seth Polk and Pastor Ben Bess officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sun. May 15, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar and one hour prior to the service at the church on Mon.
