Donald L. Wilkinson, 84, of Dunbar, son of Hillery Wilkinson and Ina Bailey Wilkinson, passed away at his home May 22, 2015.

He graduated from Dunbar High's Class of 49, where he participated in football and basketball. Don was a member of Dunbar's first track team. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves for four years. He was a licensed Land Surveyor. Along with land surveying, his main interest in life was animal and nature preservation. In his younger years, Don and his family participated in the Kanawha Valley Ski Club and the YMCA. Don was an avid golfer and a member of Sleepy Hollow Golf Club. He loved WVU football and basketball.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brothers, Clifford, Kenneth and Basil, and sister Marcelene Wilkinson Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Iris Windon Wilkinson; daughters, Bonnie Fidler, wife of Dr. Michael Fidler, Teresa Edwards, wife of Daniel Edwards, Crystal Wilkinson; son, Jason Wilkinson, husband of Kerry Ann Ritchie; grandchildren, Alex Edwards, Jacob Edwards and Indiya Lawson, sister, Bernadine Wilkinson Phethean, wife of Peter Phethean; and many nieces and nephews.

Don received excellent medical care. His family would like to thank Dr. Upton (Dunbar Medical Associates), Dr. Lamb (Renal Consultants), Dr. Jamal Khan, Dr. Scott Miller, Dr. Mousa (CAMC Vascular Center of Excellence). A special thank you to our Hospice Group; their services made it possible for Don to stay at home, in the place he loved.

A visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.

There will be no service.
