Donna S. Young,  89, of Statesville, NC, formerly of Dunbar, WV, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on January 13, 2026 following a short illness.

She was born in Charleston, the daughter of the late Nick and Dorthy Nichols of Princeton, and grew up in Mullens. Donna married James E. Young, Sr. on Christmas Day in 1954. They moved to Dunbar, in 1957 where she lived and raised her family until May 2023.  They were married 64 years.

Donna was a graduate of Mullens HS Class of 1954. Donna started her employment with C&P Telephone as a phone operator and retired from AT&T in Charleston, with 38 years of  service. Donna  was an avid bowler and bowled in various leagues with her husband Jim, including the Kilowatt League and Dunbar Seniors. She enjoyed playing cards and going to the casino. She loved her family and enjoyed the times we all were together. She especially loved her grandchildren and the time she spent with them. Donna was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dunbar.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, James "Jim" E. Young, Sr.  Donna is survived by her siblings, Jane Willis of Princeton, John Nichols of Blacksburg, VA, and Joe Nichols (Sally) of Burlington, IA; her children, Sharon Sheets (Randall) of Charleston, Diana Williamson-Barthelmess of Scott Depot, and Jim Young Jr. (Paul) of Statesville, NC; her grandchildren, Jonathan Sheets (Amber) of Charleston, Nicholas Sheets (Diana) of Riverside, CA, Blake Williamson (Carrie) of Scott Depot, and Colby Barthelmess of Golden, CO; along with her great-grandchildren, Olivia Williamson, Alaina Williamson, Luke Sheets, Lydia Sheets, Bo and Bailey Shepherd. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.  Family will welcome visitors starting at 11:30 a.m. until the beginning of the service at 1:00p.m. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association at P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
