Doris Gertrude Reed, 92 of Dunbar, died at Ohio Valley Health Care in Parkersburg on December 27, 2018.
She was born on November 8, 1926 on Lightner Avenue in Dunbar, and was the daughter of the late Cecil Homer and Mary Cecil Glass Reed.
Doris graduated from Dunbar High School in 1946 and worked at several businesses in the greater Charleston area, retiring from Ames Department Store. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Dunbar and participated in the choir, she taught youth Sunday school classes and enjoyed travel trips with many of her friends from church. Doris was always ready with a smile and a cheerful greeting. She enjoyed reading, gardening, jigsaw puzzles and the birds on the feeder outside her windows. She grew up with a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins and was always ready for the next adventure.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Rosemary Lee Reed Hoffman; brother-in-law Jack S. Hoffman; and an infant sister.
Doris is survived by her niece, Mary (Paul) Stuart of Yarmouth, Maine; nephew, David Reed Hoffman, of Concord, NC; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Cheryl Marie Hoffman, Melissa Anne Stuart, Daniel Reed Hoffman, Jeffrey Thomas Stuart, and David Reed Buckley.
The family would like to thank the staff at Ohio Valley Health Care for their dedicated care of Doris over the past 4 years.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 4, at Dunbar First Baptist Church with Pastor David Keeney officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.
Friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, January 3, at the Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, and one hour prior to the service at Dunbar First Baptist Church, Dunbar.
In lieu of flowers the family encourages gifts to the Projects Fund at Dunbar First Baptist Church, 311 16th St, Dunbar, WV. 25064.
Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
