Dorothy Jeannette Cummings, 97, originally of Procious, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 10, 2026 in her Charleston home.

Born on April 25, 1928 to the late Jack and Thelma Hanshaw, Dorothy was an Appalachian matriarch and a lifelong homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Cummings; their five children, Caroline, Lee, Roy, Danny, and Joretta "Lynn"; along with five of her siblings.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Loretta "Jane" Bailey (Jim) of Charleston; her brother, Dallas "Henry" Hanshaw of Clay; six grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

There will be no funeral service, but a Celebration of Life may be announced at a later date.
