Dorothy Eleanor Fulknier, age 86, of Cross Lanes, died on Thursday, January 24, 2008, at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston after a long illness.
She was born May 17, 1921 in Charleston, and was the daughter of the late Clayton W. and Edith Sullivan Fulknier. She was a graduate of Charleston High School.
She was one of the owner/operators of the C. W. Fulknier Hardware Stores located in Dunbar, South Charleston and Highlawn Hardware in St. Albans. After closing the businesses, she was employed by Salamie Department Store in South Charleston and then by Denny Hill Construction from where she retired. She was a past member of the Quota Club of South Charleston and was a member of the St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Charleston.
In addition to her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by sisters, Louise Hensley, brother-in-law, Harold Hensley, Cynthia Morgan, brother-in-law, Elliot Morgan and her brother, Clayton W. Fulknier, Jr., sister-in-law, Virginia Fulknier. Also nieces, Doris (Hensley) Lance Berthet and Barbara (Hensley) Tyson Edmunds and nephews, David Fulknier and Phillip Morgan and grandnephew Alex Berthet.
She is survived by her longtime helper/niece, Betty Tyson and husband, Steve of Nitro. Also surviving are nieces, Lynn (Fulknier) Terpening of Seffner, Fla, Eve (Fulknier) Spagnuolo of Bradenton, Fla. and nephew, Clay Fulknier of Cedar Rapids, IA and a special friend, Juanita Salamie. She is also survived by several grand nieces and nephews.
Per Eleanor's request, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
There will be a graveside service at 12 p.m., Saturday, January 25, at Sunset Memorial Park with the Rev. Doyle D. Smith officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Drive, Charleston, WV 25311.
