Obituary

Dorris Sherman Barker, 89, of Dunbar, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Wednesday, January 11, 2017.

Before he retired he had various careers, most notably as a trucking business owner and manager. Dorris was devoted to his Lord, family and church, serving especially Fairlawn Baptist Church as a deacon, trustee, song leader, Sunday School superintendent and teacher.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served at the end of World War II.

Going on before him were his parents, Ira Wilbur and Vennie Barker of Dunbar and Boone County; his sister, Viva Holstein; and his half-sister, Iva Stover.

He leaves his wife of 66 years, Dorcella; sons, Doug and his wife, Becky, and Steve and his wife, Anita, of Raleigh, NC. He loved and cherished his grandchildren, Erin Barker and her husband, Justin D'Ambrosio, of New York City, Daniel Barker of Dunbar, Timothy Barker of Lebanon, Ohio, and Andrew Barker and his wife, Brynn, of Waxhaw, NC. He is also survived by three nephews, John Browning, Bob Lanham and Herb Holstein.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, at Fairlawn Baptist Church, 501 20 th Street, Dunbar. Dr. Steve Barker will lead the service, assisted by Pastor Joe Ballard and Rev. Ron Fisher.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church.

Interment will be at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens at a later dateIn lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fairlawn Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 501 20 th Street, Dunbar, WV 25064, in honor of Dorris Barker.
