"Chief" Douglas Tuck Davis, 95, of South Charleston, passed away on March 5, 2022 at CAMC Memorial Hospital.

Douglas "Master Sergeant" was born May 1, 1926 to the late Thomas Mack and Mattie V. Davis

At only 17, he enlisted in the Navy where he served in World War II in the South Pacific from 1943 to 1946. While there, he learned Judo and hand to hand combat with the Marine Corps.

On September 10, 1946, he married Elizabeth and had three children. In 1950, he went and served with the Army in the Korean War until 1951.

After his service, he spent time teaching Judo to the youth of the South Charleston community. In his time, Douglas earned his Master Electrician license, became a certified Telecommunications Engineer, and he received his fourth degree black belt in Judo. As he grew older, you could find him reading and working on electronics.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Evelyn Davis; brothers, Alexander Davis and Verbie Davis; and his sisters, Clara Davis and Effie Davis.

Douglas is survived by his loving wife of 76 years, Elizabeth V. Davis; daughters, Paulette Brown and Mae (Rillie) Williams; son, Douglas Davis, Jr.; brother, Henry Davis; grandchildren, Richondra Brown, Chandra Brown, Elizabeth Brown, Walter Pannell, Nichele Pannell, Shawn Pannell, and Douglas Davis III; 11 great-grandchildren, De'Aire Harris, Kimera Harris, Myles Harris, Raigan Dawson, Brianna Brown, Dominique Dunham, Darian Pannell, Jordan Pannell, Jaelyn Pannell, Avery Pannell, and Selena Pannell; and one great-great-granddaughter, Lamiya Davis.

A funeral procession will leave Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar at 12 p.m. on Friday, March 11, for a graveside service at 12:30 p.m. in Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar.
