Effie Elizabeth Hicks, 93, of Nitro, went to her heavenly home on August 19, 2008, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation for Dunbar.
She was born July 20, 1915 in Roseland, Va., the daughter of the late Napoleon Dewey and Rose Ella Coffey Fitzgerald. On April 30, 1932, she married Clyde Hicks in Nelson County, Va., and that marriage lasted for 53 years. After moving to West Virginia in 1934, the family lived in Kanawha and Fayette Counties.
She was a homemaker and had attended Boomer Baptist Church and Twin City Bible Church, Nitro.
Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers, 13 half-siblings, two infants and in January, 2008, by her son, Alvin.
She is survived by her son, David Hicks of Nitro; daughter-in-law, Frances Evelyn Hicks of Nitro; grandchildren, Sandy (Greg) Young, Tim (Jenny) Hicks and Shelly (Eric) Tissenbaum; great grandchildren, Hannah, Alex, Ben, Josh, Sam and Sarah; several nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, August 23, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Phil Suiter officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.
