Obituary

Elizabeth "Libby" Quinet changed her address from Earth to Heaven on August 2, 2015 to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

She was born on January 3, 1917 in Charleston to the late Grant and Nora Edens.

In addition to her parents Libby was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Quinet, her companion, William "Bill" Graham, four brothers and one sister.

She is survived by her daughter, Terri Wilson and husband, David, of Monroe, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Steven L. Richardson and wife, Mary, and Emily Wilson Kirchner and husband, Matthew; and two great-grandchildren.

Libby was a spunky little 4 foot 10 inch delight. She kept a youthful spirit and was so witty even at 98 years old. It was amazing how she could adapt to any circumstance. She loved life and was so thankful for everything.

Her friends and the many people she met can only smile when they think of Libby. She had a magnetic personality. As someone described her, she was one of a kind.

Libby loved to reminisce about her life when there were gaslights, her first boyfriend and she got a job by telling a "white lie". Her many recollections were entertainment.

In her later years she started dating Bill Graham. Little did she know that they would travel to China, Hawaii, Alaska and walk all over Europe. They went on many cruises and she was the life of the party. She and Bill often cleared the floor when they were dancing. If you know Libby, you are not surprised. They dated for 13 years before he died.

Libby was a hospital volunteer for many years, worked for the Kanawha County Board of Education until she retired. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Widow's Club.

She was multi-talented and extremely creative. She could arrange flowers, embroider, knit and was an expert in sewing. Whatever was the current trend with crafts she would do it.

Libby loved, loved, loved Christmas. Her house to her nursing home room was always beautifully decorated.

She was a resident of Dunbar for 31 years, a member of Humphreys United Methodist Church and Dunbar United Methodist Church.

During the whole time Bill and Libby courted she gained a second family, Bill's son, Tony, and his family. She greatly enriched their lives and became grandma to five children. She loved being part of many, many birthdays and holidays that they celebrated together. Libby continued to be a member of the family even after Bill's death in 1998. They always loved her and saw that her needs were taken care of.

Her family cannot thank Anita McCormick enough for all the time, love, care and attention she gave Libby. She was a true friend in the deepest sense.

The family is so very thankful for the extraordinary and wonderful care Libby had at Valley Nursing Home and from Dr. Chris Kennedy. Libby was more than a resident or patient. The staff loved her and she loved them. They became family too. Their care and kindness, professionalism and medical care reassured us that she was in good hands.

Libby would want you to throw a party, tell stories about her and celebrate her life.

Services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, at Dunbar United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dr. Okey B. Harless officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
