Elsie
Davie
March 26, 1925 – October 13, 2025
Elsie Davie, nee Velcheck, born on March 26, 1925, in Middlesex, NJ, passed away on October 13, 2025, in Hurricane, WV. Her 100 years of life were full of family, love, laughter, art, education, community service and exploration.
She worked as an Executive Secretary at Bakelite in Bound Brook, NJ for several years where she met her husband, James Davie. They lived together in Plainfield and North Plainfield, NJ before finally moving to Hurricane, WV in 1978. Together they raised their three children and beloved German Shepherds and nurtured a lifelong love of New England; a love which they passed on to their children and their children's families.
Elsie volunteered at Planned Parenthood and Literary Volunteers, causes she fully believed in. She was an avid lover of the arts though she was equally versed at tending to her vegetable gardens as she was at attending ballets, plays, operas, symphonies and museum exhibits. Among her passions were playing bridge and crossword puzzle solving.
She explored and opened her eyes to the world through university courses and Elder Hostel trips to places as far away as Australia, Africa, Asia, South America and Europe, and those nearer to home throughout the USA, too.
Elsie had a full life, well-lived on her own terms. She and her sharp wit, keen sense of humor and insightful comments will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, James and her son, Christopher James (Mindy).
She is survived by her daughter, Jackie Davie-Ruggero (Bill), son Scott Daniel (Lora) and her grandchildren Patrick, James and Ethan.
Services will be private.
Donations may be made to: Literary Volunteers, The Putnam Animal Shelter, Autism Speaks, and to groups in support of local and global arts and artists.
Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
