Elsie J. Ours, of Dunbar, graduated from this life to be with the Lord, Saturday, November 28, 2015, at Hubbard Hospice House West, surrounded by her family.
She was born October 8, 1925 in Anawalt, to the late Eli and Lina Jones. In addition to her parents, Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. H. O. Ours and is the last surviving sibling in her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Denise J. Ours; granddaughter, Lovonza LeeAnna Hairston and Bud Collison, to whom she felt like a second mother. Also, survived by her many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
She taught for 35 years for public schools and 19 years for Nazarene Bible College in South Charleston. She received her Ph.D. of Theology from Frankfort Pilgrim College; Bachelor of Science Degree from University of Charleston; Master's Degree, plus 30 hours from Marshall University; plus other college hours from West Virginia Wesleyan and Concord College. She was very active in her local church, serving as, Sunday School Teacher, Adult Director, and led Tuesday morning Prayer Group.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 5, 12:00 p.m. at Charleston First Church of the Nazarene, 200 Park Avenue with Pastor Randy Lanham officiating. Entombment will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be on Friday, December 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Charleston First Church of the Nazarene and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
