Emma Jean Skiles, 78, of Dunbar, went home to be with the Lord on March 8, 2008.
Jean was a member of the Rebecca Chapel and was a retired employee of West Virginia Surplus Property in Dunbar where she worked for 16 years.
Jean was a lifelong resident of Dunbar and graduated from Dunbar High School in 1948. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Jean was a wonderful wife, as evidenced by 57 years of marriage and complete devotion to her husband throughout sickness and health, good times and bad times.
She was a wonderful mother. She participated in school activities, was a scout troop leader, a Sunday school teacher and made sure her two girls always had the very best. She was a wonderful grandmother. All of her grandchildren have wonderful memories of summer vacations, playing games with her and especially the holidays. She made the holidays wonderful for her entire family.
She was a wonderful friend. She still gets Christmas cards from old friends throughout the country and has remained true and loyal friends with many of her 20th Street neighbors throughout the years. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing her knew of her kind heart and her capacity to love and forgive.
Her family will be lost without her.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Barney Skiles, her parents, Russell and Beryl Burgess and her brother, James Burgess.
Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia Skiles Collins and Linda Skiles Smith; one sister, Judy Davis; four grandchildren, Angela Craner, Lisa West and her husband, Robert, Timmy Smith and Michael Smith. She also has four great grandchildren, Alisha West, Megan Craner, Amber West and Victoria Belanger.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 12, at the Rebecca Chapel with the Rev. Ron Nida officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.
Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 11, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Rebecca Chapel, 147 Moran Avenue, Dunbar, WV 25064.
