Obituary

Ernest H. Powers, born on February 4, 1949, passed peacefully on May 23, 2025, surrounded by love.

A lifelong educator, Ernest dedicated 32 years of his life to teaching and mentoring at South Charleston High School. More than a teacher, he was a guide, a role model, and a constant source of encouragement for countless students. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the futures he helped shape.

Ernest was a man of quiet strength, deep wisdom, and boundless compassion. He had a gift for seeing the good in others and bringing out their best. His influence will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Ruby Powers.

Ernest is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia Walker Powers, and his beloved children, Jeffrey Powers and Michele Mullins,  Philip and Jana Powers. He was a proud grandfather to Grace DeMarco, Elijah Powers, and Karlie Powers, each of whom brought him immense joy. He also leaves behind his cherished siblings: Mary Kirk, Shirley Foster, James Powers, Sue Blankenship, Randy Powers, and Nancy Duncan.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.

Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at Maranatha Fellowship Church, St. Albans.  Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Ernest's life was a testament to the power of kindness, dedication, and love. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
