Essie Lee Martin Witt, 84, of Nitro, went home to be with the Lord on January 20, 2011 at Thomas Memorial Hospital.
She was born February 15, 1926 in St. Albans and was a member of the Red Oak Christian Community Church, where she served as Secretary/Treasurer for 32 years.
Essie was a graduate of the Garnet Career Center and was a LPN at Thomas Memorial Hospital where she retired after 16 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lafe and Mae Hensley and her first husband, Carl Martin and many brothers and sisters.
Surviving are her husband, Lovell Witt of Nitro; sister, Carola Tyree and her husband, Cecil of Nitro; niece, Carla Tyree, who she raised; four special nephews, David and Kenny Breece, Eddie Bowens and Paul Hensley; special nieces, Loretta Payton, Dolores Miles, Debbie Breece and Yulonda Ashley. Also surviving are a number of other nieces and nephews, five step-children and a host of neighbors and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, January 23, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Victor Keathley, the Rev. Roy Jarrell and the Rev. Vincent Quinn officiating. Burial will follow in Teays Valley Memorial Gardens.
