Eugene "Gene" Monroe Blackshire, 82, of Charleston, died Saturday, December 2, 2023 at CAMC Memorial Hospital, following a long period of declining health.

He was born on July 8, 1941 in Charleston, a son of the late Eugene Thattis Blackshire and Grace Bassie Blackshire.

Gene was a 1959 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School. He was a retired employee of E.I. Dupont in Belle, with 35 years of service.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and he dedicated 38 years of his life as owner and operator of Gene's Turkey Calls and retired in 2017. Gene was a Christian, kind, compassionate, hardworking, and a faithful friend with a giving and generous heart. His memory will be cherished by all that met him through his many walks of life.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Blackshire; sisters, Beverly Gale Blackshire and Judith Hart Bragg.

Gene is survived by his wife, Beverly Kuhn Blackshire; his three sons, Sheldon Blackshire, Donald Blackshire (Kimberly), James Robert Blackshire; daughter Beverly Holstein (Jamie); stepson, Errol Jarvis, Jr.; stepdaughter, Tammy Kennedy; sister, Cathy Monday (Ronald); and extended family and friends.

There will be no public funeral service or visitation.

Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
