Eva Edmonia
Thompson
November 11, 1929 – December 31, 2025
Mrs. Eva Edmonia Thompson, lovingly known as First Lady or Mother Thompson, was born on November 11, 1929, and peacefully entered eternal rest on December 31, 2025, at the age of 96.
A lifelong resident of St. Albans, West Virginia, Mrs. Eva Thompson lived a life marked by unwavering faith, graceful service, and stedfast devotion to God, family, and community.
For 50 faithful years, First Lady Thompson served alongside her beloved husband, Pastor John F. Thompson, as the First Lady of Zion's Hill Church of God. Together, they exemplified servant leadership, humility, and love for God's people. Pastor Thompson preceded her in death in June 2020, after which she continued to be a quiet pillar of strength, wisdom, and prayer for the church she loved so dearly. On August 3, 2025, Mrs. Eva E. Thompson joined Restoration Praise Temple Congregation and was officially inducted as Mother of the church.
Eva worked many different places always giving much love. She worked at Thomas Memorial Hospital, as an auxiliary worker for Charleston social services for 50 years, she was a foster parent, and finally retired from Hanford community center in St. Albans, as a senior assistant.
Her legacy is one of faithfulness across generations. Through seasons of joy and challenge, she remained devoted to the calling God placed upon her life. Zion's Hill Church of God stands today as part of her enduring legacy—built not only through sermons preached, but through prayers whispered, hands extended, and love given freely.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Marie, twin sister, Edith Alberta; her husband of 70 years, Reverend John F. Thompson, Sr.; her son, John F, Jr.
Left to cherish her memories, are her children, William Earl (Sherry) of Columbus, OH, Roxie Ann of St. Albans, Robert Lewis (Shari) of St. Albans, Barbara Jean (Gamal) of Greenville, SC, Jessica Valerie (Lawrence) of St. Albans, Maurice "Reese" Kerry, Kathleen Michelle of Charleston, WV; Eugenia Jackson (Robert); Jonhnsie R. Donaldson of Southern Pines, NC; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and 103 year old cousin, Mary Elizabeth of Deepwater, WV; along with a host of family that reaches five generations and counting.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with Pastor William Lipscomb, III officiating.
Family will welcome friends two hours prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
