Evelyn Phelps-White was born on April 1, 1946 and went home to be with the Lord and her loved ones on August 11, 2015. She was 69 years young. She passed away at home after a long illness.

Evelyn was a graduate of Hurricane High School and WV State College. She was a Health Care Administrator and will be remembered for her strong belief in patient rights, she advocated respect for all individuals. She was administrator for several nursing homes and her last position was executive director of Central Child Care of WV.

Evelyn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dunbar, where she was an elder. She was also a member of the Charleston Women's Club and Democratic Women of WV.

Evelyn had a special love for animals and wildlife.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Ray and Lena Ruth Phelps

Evelyn is survived by her husband, David White of Charleston; sisters, Alwilda Stevenson of Chesapeake, Virginia, Carolyn Phelps Smith-George (Louis) of Culloden and Marsha Thornton Bradbury (Dave) of Hurricane; step-brothers, Jerry R. Thornton (Darlene) of Charleston and Steven O. Thornton of Cross Lanes; several nephews and special niece, Jenna Kersey.

The family would like to thank Dr. Gregory Harrah, Wendy Medvick, and HospiceCare for their excellent care; and special thanks to her caregivers, Michelle Payne and Christina Lewis.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 13 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with the Rev. Dr. Patricia Jarvis and the Rev. David Bess officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
