Flora Mae Vance, 70, of Cross Lanes, gained her wings on Monday, July 17, 2023.
She was born on October 1, 1952 in Seth, to the late William and Tina Roach.
Flora was a very caring and loving person who loved her husband and family more than life. She and her husband were very active in the foster care system, keeping a total of 112 kids. Flora also received many awards while spreading her love and infectious smile. She loved her job as an in-home caregiver until her retirement. Flora enjoyed traveling to car shows with her husband, and going to yard sales and flea markets with her family. She was a very loving, caring, and devoted wife, daughter, sister, and mother who will be deeply missed.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, William Roach; brother-in-law, Charles Vance, and April Vance of Huntington.
She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, James Vance; sons, Christopher Vance and wife Alisha of Sissonville, Travis Vance of Cross Lanes; daughter, Lora Cline and husband Joshua of Cross Lanes; sisters, Georgia Jarvis and husband Charles of South Charleston, Cora Lynn Walton and husband Luke of South Charleston, Mary Richard of South Charleston, Kay Reed and husband Kermit of St. Albans; brothers, John Roach and wife Barbara of St. Albans, Paul Roach of South Charleston; sister-in-law, Nance Vance of Virginia; nieces, Ginger and Tina Vance of Virginia; 12 grandchildren including Brooklyn Dunlap, whom she thought of as a daughter; three great-grandchildren, and an abundance of nieces and nephews whom she loved.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 21, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with Pastor Charlie Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.
Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
