March 22, 1920 – December 24, 2009
Frances, the oldest child of Leslie Clay Gillespie and Mina Burdette Gillespie, was born on March 22, 1920 in Huntington. She graduated in December 1938 from Charleston High School, and married Cecil T. Hill, Jr. on February 16, 1939. They were married for 67 years, before Cecil's death in 2006. Together, they raised four children while living in Dunbar, and then moved to Seminole, FL in 1978 upon Cecil's retirement from FMC. They returned to WV in 1990, and lived in Winfield.
In addition to her husband and parents, Frances was preceded in death by an infant son, David Lee, infant grandchildren, Jon Mitchell Hoover, Jr., David Lee Hoover, and Christi Lynn Hoover; sisters, Mary Ellen "Sally" Parsons, Betty J. Brown, and Margaret L. "Peggy" Delmerico; youngest brother, David B. Gillespie.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter, Marybeth Hoover Hill of Scott Depot; sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Lorraine Hill of Alberton, MN, Tom and Robin Hill of Cleveland, GA, Mike and Robin Hill of Wise, VA; 19 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph C. and Dot Gillespie of Nashville, TN; special niece, Judy Parsons Clendenin of Hurricane; brothers-in-law, Robert E. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Sweetbriar Assisted Living in Dunbar and to Sunbridge Putnam for the medical care and kindness extended to our mother during her residency at those facilities. She loved her "home" at Sweetbriar, and always hoped to be well enough to return there.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 30, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Edward L. Grant officiating. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
