Frances Josephine "Sister Jimmie" Copen Walker
It is with great sadness we announce that Frances Josephine Copen (Walker) better known to many as Sister Jimmie, age 89, of Charleston, WV, passed away at home with her family by her side on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.
Sister Jimmie was born October 15, 1934 to the late Layton and Maize Copen.
She was an ole time pentecostal preacher, and a member and Minister/Evangelist of the Church of Jesus Christ. Sister Jimmie was known in the early days as one the "three Holy Ghost sisters". She preached in the Kanawha Valley, Florida, and Indiana to name a few. She held revivals in Charleston, Coalburg, and Paint Creek, WV as well as Brooksville, FL, and street meetings in Tennessee. Sister Jimmie also had a radio ministry in Charleston (Traveling the Heavenly Highway with Sister Jimmie Walker) for ten years. She played the guitar and sang ole time christian songs. In addition to her evangelism, she was a nursing assistant at both CAMC Memorial, and Brooksville Hospital in Florida, and a secretary at King Center Head Start.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, David Counts and her brother, Robert L. Copen.
Sister Jimmie is survived by her daughter, Teresa Counts and younger brother, Rodney Copen (Marian).
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 28 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with Minister Tommy Yonts officiating. Burial will follow in Elk Hills Memorial Park.
Family will receive visitors two hours prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
