Obituary

Frank Lee "Rail" Moore, Sr., 94, of Holden, WV, passed away on October 5, 2012, following a long illness.

He lived and raised his children "on the hill," but for the past couple of years, resided with his oldest daughter in Institute.

Frank was born on September 5, 1918, in Harvest, Alabama, the son of the late Archie Moore, Sr., and Lucy Nancy Moore. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Dingess Moore, his sisters, Ellen Burns and Pearlean Bass and his brothers, Newell, Lowell and Archie Moore, Jr.

Frank accepted Christ as his Savior earlier this year and was glad to become a child of God. He graduated from Aracoma High School where he was active on both the basketball and baseball teams. He also entered the work force at the tender age of 18 for the Island Creek Coal Company, before retiring in 1981. During his 43 years of dedicated service, Frank was promoted to the position of a Mine Foreman. He held the position during the latter years of his employment. He also enjoyed playing amateur baseball for the Holden Bearcats, where he traveled to many states.

He was a dedicated husband and father and loved watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren grow into young adults.

Frank was gifted in electronics and worked well with his hands by repairing cars, televisions and small appliances. He loved life and enjoyed helping people. He also loved taking care of his cats and feeding the birds, watching them come and go from the window.

Frank liked to watch and discuss all topics, especially sports and politics. Some things he would say were, "you are born to die" or "I am here beyond my time" and "I want to live just two more years."

Frank passes the torch and leaves his legacy to two daughters, Deborah (Frank) Walker of Institute, and Sheila (Jesse Jones) Moore of Atlanta, GA; two sons, Frank Moore, Jr., of Thailand and Gregory Moore of Huber Heights, OH, as well as a beloved daughter-in-law, Denise Moore. He leaves to mourn his siblings, Otis (Margaret) Moore, Christine Crawford and sister-in-law, Inez Moore; twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends to cherish his memories.

Special thanks to Frank Walker, Sr., as well as caregiver and friends, Monty McCrary.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, October 12, at the Five and Six Freewill Baptist Church, near Holden, with the Rev. Kevin Richardson officiating. Entombment will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Pecks Mill.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
