Obituary

Franklin Louis Jividen, 95, of Dunbar, went home to be with the Lord on July 8, 2010.

He was born on April 25, 1915, to Averall Emerson Jividen and Mary Elizabeth (Gilbert). He was a graduate of Poca High School. Franklin repaired analytical balances while employed at Union Carbide for over 30 years. He also started his own business in the mid 1950s, servicing balances across the Mid-Atlantic. He received valuable training from Mettler and many other balance companies, making him one of only a few people certified to repair all brands of mechanical balances. His passion for analytical balance repair and his reputation as a skilled technician fueled a successful career that lasted more than fifty years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Dunbar.

Franklin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Randall and Gilbert; and sisters, Kathryn Botkin and Nola Brick.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Hazel Madeline (Tribble); son, Thomas Jividen and wife, Rita, of Wilmington, NC, and daughters, Nancy Karopchinsky and husband, Johnny, of Melbourne, FL, and Libby Plumley and husband, David, of Poca; sisters Emily Maddox of St. Albans, and Clara "Happy" Fowler of Eleanor. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Tommy Bradley and wife, Sherri, of Melbourne, FL, Tom Jividen Jr. and Jim Jividen of San Diego, CA, Anna Plumley of Morgantown, and David Plumley II of Poca; and two great-grandchildren, Tommy and Kayla Bradley of Melbourne, FL.

The family wishes to thank those who helped to care for their loved one in the recent weeks: oncologist Dr. Justin Cohen, Fifth Floor South nursing staff at CAMC Memorial, and Hubbard Hospice House nurses, Jettie Young, Debbie Montague, Julie Slater, Dolly Graley, Pam Runnels, and Pat Taylor. A special thank you to Dr. Jim Brick and Dr. John Brick, who provided valuable advice to their uncle throughout his care.

In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Drive, Charleston, WV 25311.

The family looks forward to celebrating Franklin's life with friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, July 11, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.

Service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 12, at First Baptist Church, Dunbar. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Park.
