Obituary

Fred William Clendenin, 90, of Cross Lanes, passed away February 8, 2012 at the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston after a short illness.

He was a member of Bricklayers and Allied Crafts Local Union Local No. 9, and the VFW. Mr. Clendenin was a skilled bricklayer whose work is displayed throughout the Kanawha Valley, including the State Capitol and the Kanawha County Public Library.

He served in the US Army as a communications field lineman and was assigned to the Signal Co. 83rd US Infantry Division during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Myrtle Louise Clendenin, his parents, Owens and Dessie Clendenin, his precious daughter, Karen Jean Beckett, brothers, Ted, Tom, James and Pete Clendenin and sisters, Ruth Carol and Audrey Fisher.

Surviving are his daughters, Linda Lucas and her husband, Ralph of Cross Lanes, Becky Clendenin of Cross Lanes, Pam Shamblin and her husband, Art of Charleston and Cindy Cole and her husband, Harold of Nitro; brother, Richard Clendenin of North Carolina. He is also survived by grandchildren, Steve Lucas, Fred Lucas, Harold Redman, Jr., Beth Redman Legg, Matt Cole and Connie Jean Beckett, eight great grandchildren and his beloved and loyal friend, his pet dog "Buster Lee," who was by his side until the end.

The family wishes to graciously thank their father's caregiver of four years, Pennie Anderson, who he thought of as his own loving child.

Our family wishes to thank the staff of the Hubbard Hospice House for their extended kindness. We would like to acknowledge and thank Frank Clendenin, nephew, for his loyalty and love for our Dad.

Funeral services will be held at noon, Saturday, February 11, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Pastor Brian Cantrell officiating and Chuck Young singing. Entombment with military rites will be in the Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens Mausoleum.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.

Fred William Clendenin was a loving father, grandfather and brother who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
