Obituary

Freda Carmen Thaxton Trevillian, 94, of Dunbar, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2011, at the home of her daughter in Greensboro, NC.

She was born January 13, 1917, in Charleston, the daughter of the late Katherine Asbury Thaxton and Otis Luddington Thaxton.

Freda was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dunbar, the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter #131, the Dunbar Womens Club and the Dunbar Garden Club. She had lived in Dunbar since 1940 and graduated from Union District High School in 1935. Freda enjoyed helping others and worked with the Order of the Rainbow Girls, was a volunteer for the Dunbar Public Library, delivering books to readers who were home bound. She was also a volunteer for Hospice and loved reading books to children in the after school program at the First Baptist Church.

Her love of travel began when her father bought his first car. During her lifetime she traveled to Hawaii, Guam, Alaska, England, Ireland, Wales, Scotland and France. She loved her many trips to the beach and was a member of two travel clubs.

Freda was preceded in death by her brother, Freeman Kenneth Thaxton, her husband, Maxwell Norwood Trevillian, Sr. and her son-in-law, Dr. Robert E. Howland.

She is survived by her son, Maxwell Norwood Trevillian, Jr. and his wife, Daisy of San Antonio, Texas and by her daughter, Katherine Howland of Greensboro, North Carolina; her grandson, Shawn Trevillian of Guam, granddaughter, Katherine Lopez and her husband, Christopher of San Antonio, Texas; and two great grandchildren, Katalina and Steve Lopez. She is also survived by a host of cousins.

A service to honor the life of Freda will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, July7, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with Pastor Philip Shields officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Family and friends may visit two hours prior to the service at the funeral home, where there will be an Order of Eastern Star service at 1:45 p.m.
