Obituary

Frederick Ralph Lyon III, lovingly known as Fred or Freddie, passed away peacefully at home in St. Albans, West Virginia, on July 13, 2025, at the age of 51. He had recently returned home following a lengthy hospital stay of nearly three months and had faced ongoing health challenges, including heart disease, diabetes, and cellulitis.

Fred was born on September 18, 1973, in South Charleston, West Virginia, to the late Frederick "Rick" Ralph Lyon II and Patricia Ann Egnor Lyon. He graduated from St. Albans High School in 1991, where he proudly played trumpet in the band.

Fred had a heart for service and dedicated much of his life to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. Over the years, he worked for several organizations including Shawnee Hills, REM, and Stevenson. His compassion and dedication left a lasting impact on many. Unfortunately, due to his declining health, he had to step away from the work he loved.

A man of strong Christian faith, Fred was a devoted member of Maranatha Fellowship in St. Albans. He had a special connection with Pastor James Wright and his family and joyfully served behind the scenes running cameras for the church's online services. Fred loved to sing and praise the Lord, and his faith was a guiding force throughout his life.

He was known for his kindness, humor, and generous spirit. Fred never met a stranger and had a special gift for making people feel welcome. As his mobility became limited, he found joy in simple routines—particularly visiting Kroger, riding the motorized cart through the aisles, catching up with friends in the pharmacy, and searching for good deals.

Fred loved music, food, cooking, and spending time with those he cared about. He shared a close bond with his sister, Susan Lyon Jarrell (Robert), and they cherished outings to Sitar restaurant together. He also shared a loving relationship with his longtime partner, Danielle Stanley. The two enjoyed cooking together, singing along to their favorite songs, and watching TV shows—Fred had promised to make her his famous spaghetti.

Fred especially loved celebrating New Year's Eve with Danielle, his sister, and brother-in-law, playing games and enjoying each other's company. A true social butterfly, Fred thrived in the presence of others and left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Danny Pruden.

He is survived by his devoted sister, Susan Lyon Jarrell (Robert); his beloved partner, Danielle Stanley; his stepsister, Danielle (Pruden) Shomo; his niece, Hattie (Jarrell) Stump; his uncle and aunt, Tim and Becky Egnor; and his cousins, Ian Egnor, Erin Ann Egnor, and Erica Anne Egnor, as well as a multitude of friends and loved ones.

A memorial gathering to celebrate Fred's life will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.

Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
