Gary L. Burdett, 71, of South Charleston, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2008, surrounded by family at Hubbard Hospice House after a short illness.
Dad was born December 30, 1936 in Charleston to the late Jim and Alva Burdett. He retired from the South Charleston Police Department and the Tri-State Greyhound Race Track and Gaming Center. He was a life member of the South Charleston FOP and was a member of the South Charleston Little League Board of Directors.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty S. Burdett, his sister, Peggy Burdett and his brother, Jim Burdett, Jr.
He is survived by his children, Terri Swecker and her husband, Mark of South Charleston, Robin Campbell and her husband, Jeff of Teays Valley, Walter Coleman and his wife, Rose of South Charleston, Linda Ratliff and her husband, Doug of St. Albans. Also surviving are grandchildren, Michael Sadler, Bryce Swecker, Dustin Campbell, Jeremy Coleman and Stacy Myers; great grandchildren, Samantha Harris, Chase Sadler and Rider Barrett.
Friends and family will gather for visitation on Tuesday, June 3, 2008, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Tommy Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
