Obituary

Gary Maurice Davis was born on November 6, 1953, to Audra Smoot Davis and his birth father, Curtis Davis, and was lovingly raised by his stepfather, Thomas James Dillard, whom he knew as Dad. Surrounded by love, he was called home March 21, leaving behind a legacy of music, laughter, and devotion to family.

Gary had a deep love for music, following in his mother's footsteps. He was an avid bass player and singer and took great pride in his time with the Charleston Area Community Choir. He received his early education in Madison, West Virginia, and graduated from Scott High School, where he also played basketball. Gary retired in 2022 from CBRE as a Building Engineer, where he formed many lasting friendships.

Gary was known for his warmth, humor, and ability to bring people together. He loved cooking especially on his Big Green Egg and creating moments that brought joy to those around him. In 1997, he married Yvonne Wilson, and together they built a life filled with love and memories across Virginia, Georgia, and Florida. In 2023, they returned to West Virginia, where Gary embraced one of his most cherished roles "Paw Paw Bear" to his beloved granddaughter, Brielle.

Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Audra Smoot-Dillard; his father, Curtis Davis; his stepfather, Thomas James Dillard; and his sister, Regina Powell-Richardson.

He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Yvonne Davis; his daughters, Jamie Cotton, Summer Davis, and Dr. Jerica Wesley (Jonathan); and Tamyiko Wilson McDonnough and Ceateetra Booker, whom he loved as his own; his grandsons, Michael Cotton and Jonas McDonnough; his granddaughters, Brittany Cotton and Brielle Wesley; his siblings, Audrana Austin Maynard), Curtis "Gene" Davis (Tia), and Terri Outlaw (Edward); and a host of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
