Obituary

Geneva B. Lett of Dunbar, our precious mother and grandmother took on her angel wings on Monday, November 10, 2014 at Hubbard Hospice House West after a long illness.

Born April 24, 1923 she was blessed with 91 ½ years. Geneva was the last survivor of six children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alonzo "Lon" Madison Beach and Minnie Beach of Belleville; siblings, Claude Beach, Cecil Beach, Jack Beach, Eva Beach Townsend, Florence Beach Lemly. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, J.R. Carter; husband, Reverend Robert "Bob" Lett; daughters, Myrna Lett Rader and Pamela Lett Sloane.

Geneva is survived by her sons, Joseph "Joe" Carter and wife, Rose, of St. Albans, Robert "Bobby" Lett and wife, Linda of Sunset, S.C.; daughter, Deborah "Debbie" Beane and husband, Jay, of Dunbar. Geneva's life was blessed with 12 grandchildren, Mark Rader, Chris Rader and Patrick Rader all of Cross Lanes, Mike Rader of Texas, Jennifer Rader of Poca, Lori Lett Ozgen of Ill., Lee Ann Sloane King and Travis Sloane of Minn., Robbie Carter of Tenn., Jessica Carter Hunt of St. Albans, Todd Beane of Southport, N.C., and Timmy Beane of Lexington, N.C.; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her best friend since the age of 18, who has been like a sister, Georgia Covert of Dunbar.

Geneva was a homemaker most of her life and loved taking care of her family. She loved cooking, baking and sewing. She worked for a short time at The Card Mart, which used to be on Capitol St. in Charleston and was custodian at Dunbar Mountain Mission Church for several years until she retired at the age of 75. Over the years Geneva was active in the Dunbar Chapter of Eastern Star with over 50 years membership, the Dunbar Woman's Club, The Dunbar Garden Club, and was a volunteer on the Auxiliary at Thomas Memorial Hospital with over 500 hours of volunteer service. She attended several churches in the Kanawha Valley over the years while her husband, Rev. Bob Lett, pastored; but Dunbar Mountain Mission has always been her home church, where she attended faithfully and sang in the choir.

The family would like to thank Rosemary Marion for the years of tender loving care while she helped as one of Mom's caregivers and to Al Marion for sharing Rosemary with our family and for his good cooking that he shared with us, too. We would like to thank Dr. Matthew Upton and staff at Dunbar Medical, and the staff of Genesis Health Care in Dunbar for their love and care for Mom in the last year and the friendships that we made there. Thanks to the sweet staff at Hubbard Hospice House West for their wonderful, compassionate care of Mom and our family the last 12 days of her life.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 14 at Dunbar Mountain Mission with Rev. Ron Fisher and Rev. Ray Parsons officiating. Burial will follow Bryant Cemetery, Cross Lanes with her grandsons, Mark, Chris, Mike, Pat, Todd, Timmy and Robbie as pallbearers.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Hubbard Hospice House West, 4605 MacCorkle Ave, South Charleston, WV 25309 in Geneva's memory.
