Obituary

George Eplin, 70, of South Charleston, passed away Oct. 4, 2006 at Hubbard Hospice House after a long illness.

He was born April 18, 1936 in Spring Hill and was a lifelong resident of South Charleston. He retired from the City of South Charleston and was a former employee of Kanawha Country Club. Mr. Eplin was a Christian and attended the Holly Memorial Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert & Florence Eplin, a son, Perry Byron Eplin, sister, Virginia Scarberry & a brother, Roy Eplin.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Betty Slater Eplin of South Charleston; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Robert Angel of South Charleston, Sherrie and Jack Parrish of Kenna; sons and daughters-in-law, Barry and Deloris Eplin of Given, Terry and Delana Eplin of Florence, Ky, Arthur "Butch" Slater and his fiancé, Susan Sunday of St. Albans; daughter/granddaughters, Sara Craddock and Florence Falls; brother, Robert Eplin and wife, Carol of South Charleston; sisters, Betty Eplin of South Charleston, Mary Holley of Ravenswood, Orpha Hager and husband, Neal of South Charleston; brother-in-laws, Larry Slater and wife, Debbie of Hurricane and Billy Slater and wife, Sandy of Louisville, Ky; sister-in-law, Sandy Phillips and husband, Johnny of Louisville, Ky; 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. "Uncle Barney" loved you all.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 7, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Lee Hamrick officiating. Entombment will follow in Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Oct. 6, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the entire nursing staff at Thomas Memorial Hospital and to everyone involved with Hubbard Hospice House for your help and care during this time of grief. You are all truly proof that there are "Angels Among Us."
