Obituary

George W. Jackson, Jr., 82, of Charleston, passed on Sunday, March 20, 2011.

He was born in Huntington and graduated from Dunbar High School and retired as Regional Sales and Services Manager for United Airlines after 37 years of service.

Also known as "Jack," Mr. Jackson was a musician having played trumpet for many years in the Johnny Combs Orchestra in the Charleston area. An avid golfer, he once won the United Airlines Employee golf tournament. Another of his many interests was cooking, as he regularly prepared meals for holiday gatherings. George also had a fondness for English Roadsters.

Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his parents, George W. Jackson, Sr. and Euna Rice Jackson; sisters, Mary Alice Carter and Phyllis Turley; and son, James Edward Jackson.

Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife of 35 years, Geraldine; sons, Steve and his wife, Vicki of Nitro, Jeff and his wife, Debbie of Winfield; brother, David and his wife, Velma of Dunbar; first wife, Mary K. Jackson of Charleston; step-sons, Robert Hobbs of Kuwait, Joe Hobbs of Ponca City, Oklahoma and Qatar and John Hobbs of Beckley; two grandsons, five step grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Following Mr. Jackson's wishes, he has been cremated and there will be no funeral.

A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, March 26, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
