George W Mitchell, 89 of Dunbar, WV passed away peacefully Saturday, June 19, 2010 at his home and is now waiting for the rapture.

He was born April 10, 1921 and born again March 16, 1950. George served with the US Coast Guard from 1942 until 1945 and retired from Union Carbide Institute in 1983 with 38 years of loyal service. He was a faithful member of West Dunbar Community Church, Charleston Mountain Mission and Rebecca Chapel.

George is survived by his dedicated wife of 65 years, Helen (Stephens) Mitchell, sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Stephen and Margaret Mitchell of Woodstock, GA, Timothy Jay and Joy Mitchell of Hurricane; daughter and son-in-law, Luann and Jerry Flanagan of Dunbar. His very special grandchildren include Tommi Sue, Sarah Marie (Pete), Mary Louise of Woodstock, GA and Sandy & Jay, SFC Jamison Scott (Lorrie) of Fort Rucker, AL, Jason Todd of Dunbar, Kaila-"Molly" of Scott Depot, Kristin & Whitney , Cara and Ryan Flanagan of Dunbar, and 5 wonderful great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a special son, Billy Myers of Gallipolis, OH.

The family owes a very special debt of gratitude to the many neighbors, friends and good Samaritans that helped Dad find his way home numerous times over the years during his long battle with Dementia.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 23, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with Pastor Ron Nida officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 22, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
