Obituary

George Warner Phares, 81, of Dunbar, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at his home after a short illness.

He was born June 17, 1925 in Charleston, the ninth of eleven children born to Grover C. and Emma Gunnoe Phares. He was a US Navy veteran of WW II, having served aboard the USS Wichita. George retired as a Supervisor over the construction department of the Union Carbide Institute Plant with 35 years of service. He was a member of the South Ruffner Presbyterian Church.

George was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his great granddaughter, Samantha Danielle Adkins.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Gail Frances Lynn Phares; daughters, Linda Gibson and her husband Steve of Nitro and Beverly Adkins and her husband, Arnold of Dunbar; sister, Evelyn Burdette of Cross Lanes. George is also survived by his six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 28, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Gene Pauley officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 27, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
