Obituary

Gerald "Jerry" Allen Jones, 65, died at home on Big Tyler Road, Charleston on March 23, 2024 of natural causes.

Jerry was born in Charleston, WV on February 26, 1959 to the late Ivan Jones and late Joyce Meridith.

Jerry graduated Dunbar Senior High School and was a member of the class of 1977.  He worked in the area at several restaurants before joining the  United State Army in September of 1986.  Jerry was injured while serving, and was discharged in March 1989 with a medical disability, but not before being awarded the hand grenade expert and sharpshooter M-16 rifle award.  Jerry was very proud to be a veteran of the US Army.  He was a lifetime Cincinnati Reds and WVU Football fan.  He will be remembered as a friend to a veteran in need and also a humanitarian to many people who were down and out in need of food or shelter.

Jerry is survived by brothers, Mikel Jones of Florida,, Scott Jones (Vickie) of Charleston, and Jeff Jones of Dunbar; sisters, Renee Jones, Dorcus (Todd) of Cross Lanes, Judy Bays (Randy) of North Carolina, Libby Jones of Charleston, and Mary Brinkley (Butch) of Virginia; son, Nathaniel Akers of Hastings, Michigan; and three grandchildren, Rhaelyn and Kymber Akers of Chapmanville, and Ricochet Akers of Hastings, Michigan.

A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2024 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with Scott Jones officiating.  Inurnment will follow in Donal C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery.

Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
