Glada Ellen Barker went home to be with the Lord on February 18, 2024.

Glada was born on September 11, 1921 in Belgrove, Jackson county, WV to the late Gilbert Alexander Tolley and Rebecca Jane Hunt Tolley.

She lived in Belgrove until the age of fourteen when she moved to Dunbar to live with family so that she could continue her education. Glada graduated from Dunbar High School in 1940, and married Hobert Woodrow Barker in 1941.

At the age of 85, Glada took her first flight going on a twelve day tour of Ireland with her daughter, Rhonda and son-in-law, John.  She was always up for an adventure, and Ohio's Amish Country was a favorite destination.

Glada was a member of the Southwest Church of God in Springhill.  She was active in her church, and also enjoyed going to South Charleston Senior Center until her eventual move to Sweetbrier Assisted Living in Dunbar.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hobert Woodrow Barker; only son, Larry Woodrow Barker; son-in-law, John Robert Cox. Glada also outlived all her brothers and sisters, living to be 102 years and 5 months. Glada had ten half siblings from her father's first marriage, along with brothers, Okey (Velma), Raymond (Lura), Woodrow (Irma), Gilbert (Wilda), and sisters, Mary Gladys and Goldie.

She is survived by daughters, Rhonda Kay Cox of Gassaway, Cheryl Ann "Sherry" Johnston (James) of Winston-Salem, NC; daughter-in-law, Elaine Hughes Barker of Colorado Springs, CO; eight grandchildren, Terri, Christina, Jeffrey, Melissa, John Eric, April, Kevin, and Stacey; along with numerous great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and friends to cherish her memory.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 26 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with the Reverend Steve Button officiating.  Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park.

Family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
