Obituary

Gordon Lee Palmer, born on July 1, 1934, in Witcher Creek, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2024.

He was the beloved son of the late William "Bill" Harold Palmer and Hallie Mae Palmer, who were long-time residents of Witcher Creek.

Gordon grew up in West Virginia, attending Dupont High School before furthering his education at Morris Harvey College.  He dedicated his career to public service, working with the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources and later serving as the Executive Director for the West Virginia School Board Association.  After a distinguished career, Gordon retired to Dunbar, West Virginia, where he was an active member of the community and his church.  His life was marked by a deep commitment to his faith, family, golf, and a passion for antiques.

In addition to his parents, Gordon was preceded in death by his brother, William "Bill" Franklin Palmer, Col, USAF Ret. of Las Vegas, NV; his sister, Carol Sue Palmer of College Station, TX; and his first wife, Barbara Dawson Palmer.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Amy Palmer of Dunbar, WV; his nieces, Shannon Weatherford of College Station, TX and Cindy Beth Palmer Lynch of Las Vegas, NV; his nephews, Sean Snedeker of Waco, TX, Cass Palmer, and Sam Palmer of Las Vegas, NV; along with many great and great-great nieces and nephews.  They will all cherish his memory and the legacy he leaves behind.

Gordon will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his legacy of kindness and friendship will forever live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and in the hills of West Virginia.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2024 in Montgomery Memorial Cemetery, Montgomery, WV.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations by made to the Witcher Creek Baptist Church.
