Obituary

Grace Adair West Dillion, 95, of Nitro, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023, at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.

She was born on May 4, 1928 in Charleston to the late George Summers West and Frances Holt West.

Grace was widowed at a young age and has finally been reunited with the love of her life. She was known to be feisty and stubborn, and was often referred to as being a firecracker or a pistol. She was strong and independent woman who was exceptionally loyal to those she loved, and she loved each of her family members fiercely and unconditionally. She loved family get togethers, whether it be a holiday dinner at Mike's house, a cookout at Lori's, or someone's birthday celebration at a local restaurant. She loved the beach and especially enjoyed the family reunions in Florida the past couple of years with her children, grandchildren, nephews and extended family. Grace loved to sew and quilt and was quite an accomplished quilter and made many quilts for family members and friends.

She had spent time employed at Gravely in Dunbar, the AFL/CIO in Charleston, Process Instruments in Charleston, Midwest Steel in Charleston, the University of Charleston, and Humphrey's United Methodist Church in Dunbar.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Troy (KT) Dillion; and her sister, Jeane West Foglesong.

Grace is survived by her children, Michael Dillion (Shanda) of Charleston, Lori Trent (Gary) of Red House; grandchildren, Michael Dillion II of Nitro, Margaret Moubray of Cross Lanes, Erika Leigh Dunlap (Chris) of St. Albans, Jarrod Trent (Kaylee) of Red House, Andrew Matheny (Kristen) of Morgantown, Sara Smith (Andy) of Charlotte, NC; 10 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and four nephews and their families that she loved as her own, and loved spending time with them.

The family would like to thank the ER staff at CAMC Memorial Hospital for their stellar care and communication. The doctors and nurses were kind, professional and empathetic to her condition, as well as the family's responsibilities. The family would also like to thank the staff at Hubbard Hospice House of Charleston. Their care was top-notch and they are incredibly good at their difficult job. Dr. Molly John for her care throughout the years. Bonnie Smith, CRNA, a personal friend and became the unofficial liaison between the medical personnel and family during her last few days.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 25, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with Pastor John Mason officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Gardens of Memories, Cross Lanes.

Friends may visit two hours prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
