Gwendolyn Maurice Sobczak Jones passed away at home on Saturday, September 17, 2011, in Dunbar. She was 74 years old.
Gwen was born in DuBois, Pennsylvania on August 25, 1937. She grew up in Parsons, West Virginia, where she graduated from Parsons High School in 1955. She attended West Virginia State College in Institute, West Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her father, Francis Sobczak, mother, Helen Nestor, sister, Barbara Roy and grandson, Franklin Canterbury, III.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, James "Jim" E. Jones; her daughters, Jayme (Frank) Canterbury, Jo Elizabeth (Mike) Brown, Jann (Mick) Weedy; and son, James (Amber) Earl Jones, II. Her son, James "Jimmy" and wife, Amber were Gwen's loving caregivers these last few years. She is also survived by eight grandchildren who were the love of her life, Tristan, Nicholas and Morgan Canterbury, Maximilian Brown, Alex, Ashley, Ayden and Austin Jones. Gwen is also survived by many relatives and friends.
A private memorial service and mass will be held at the Christ the King Catholic Church in Dunbar.
